Crochet Dominates | Treveyon Henderson poised for breakout game | Bruins Roster Predictions | Celtics City Edition Reveal

Red Sox

The Red Sox trounced the Blue Jays Wednesday night in a 7-1 win that puts Boston just one win away from clinching a postseason spot. Garret Crochet took the mound and threw 8 scoreless innings with 6 strikeouts. Crochet became the first pitcher in the MLB to reach 250 strikeouts on the season, and it was a perfect way to cap off his career year.

Many wondered if Crochet would struggle in this one due to them pushing his start up a day to give Bryan Bello extra rest. Crochet quickly quelled all worry and diced up the Blue Jays in an efficient manner.

The Red Sox offense also had a monster day. Masataka Yoshida continued his red-hot run of form, driving in two runs from a double and a home run. Yoshida’s batting average for the month of September is .333, which is a great sign heading into the postseason.

Carlos Narvaez followed up his clutch hit from the previous game with a 3-run home run in the 8th inning to put Wednesday's game to bed. With the Blue Jays’ fate all but sealed, they started to voice their frustration, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was tossed from the game after arguing a strike 3 call.

This moment came on the heels of a controversial foul ball call that prevented the Blue Jays from taking the lead in Tuesday night's game.

The best moment of the game was the finish when Wilyer Abreu threw out Alejandro Kirk at first to end the game. Kirk blasted what would’ve been a single against most right fielders, but Gold Glover Wilyer Abreu fired the ball to Nathaniel Lowe in time to get Kirk out. Moments like these are common in Little League but extremely rare in the majors.

Patriots

Treveyon Henderson made headlines on Wednesday when he was seen leading the way in running back drills. The drills are usually led by Rhamondre Stevenson, but after struggling to hold onto the football, all signs point to the Patriots giving the brunt of the carries to rookie Treveyon Henderson.

Henderson has failed to break out in his first 3 games and is averaging just 3.4 YPC. Among rookie running backs, Treveyon Henderson ranked 7th in yards with just 65. It has been a slow start for Henderson, but if he gets the majority of the touches against a weak Panthers team, then he could be poised for a breakout game.

The Patriots are still yet to make an official determination on Christian Gonzalez’s status for Sunday. Gonzalez has been practicing all week, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him suit up for the Patriots this weekend, but nothing has been confirmed.

Bruins

The Bruins have a lot of players in their system and not a lot of roster spots, so after two preseason games I felt it was time to make some roster predictions. These predictions are based solely on my analysis of the two preseason games, and some may be very bold. Let's get into it.

John Beecher Gets Cut

Beecher started his Bruins career off strong but has failed to improve in many areas of his game. Last season was a nightmare for Beecher as he only registered 3 goals on the season after many hoped for a breakout year. It was a notable regression from his performance in his rookie season.

Beecher made his preseason debut against the Rangers and had a poor showing. Beecher was -2 on the night with 0 points. In the second period, Beecher had a costly turnover in his own zone that led to a Rangers goal.

With limited spots on the bottom 6 and a lot of new faces, giving Beecher a roster spot doesn’t make much sense, and honestly, a change of scenery might be what he needs to get his confidence back.

Korpisalo Remains the Backup (For Now)

Entering the season, many wondered if Michael DiPietro would take the backup spot away from Joonas Korpisalo. DiPietro is coming off an unbelievable year in Providence where he posted a 2.05 GAA in 40 games.

After a poor season from Korpisalo, giving the backup spot to DiPietro seemed likely, but in the preseason opener, DiPietro struggled and allowed 5 goals on just 21 shots. Korpisalo got the start in the following game and looked far better than DiPietro, stopping 34 shots in the process.

While I could see Korpisalo getting dealt over the course of the season, I expect the Bruins to start the year with him as their backup. Depending on how the season goes, Korpisalo could be dealt to open up cap space, and in that case, DiPietro would surely assume the backup role.

Matej Blumel to Boston, Poitras and Lysell to Providence

In the two games thus far, Matej Blumel has impressed with his offensive ability. While many thought names like Matthew Poitras or Fabian Lysell would be the young stars to have a breakout year, I believe that Matej Blumel is the young skilled forward most poised to do so.

In the two games thus far, Blumel has looked far better than both Lysell and Poitras and connected with Casey Mittelstadt to score his first goal in a Bruins shirt. Blumel has a lot of skill and a nose for the net. Blumel finished 2nd in the AHL last year with 72 points but was never given an opportunity on a loaded Dallas Stars team.

The Bruins are starved of goalscorers, and Blumel could be exactly what this team has been looking for. Don’t be surprised if he makes the team over Lysell and Poitras. Blumel is also on a one-way contract, so he would have to clear waivers if the Bruins wanted to assign him to Providence.

Celtics

The Celtics unveiled their City Edition jerseys for the 2025-26 season, and they are gold… literally. The jersey is white with gold lettering and barely has any green on it. In a social media post revealing the jerseys, the Celtics said, “This year's City Edition jerseys are a nod to our timeless tradition of winning.”

What do you think of the jerseys?
